I've never been asked to write an editor's letter for a magazine before, so I was particularly nervous and honored when Backcountry Magazine's editor asked if I'd pen the opening essay for a recent issue dedicated to women in backcountry skiing. I choose to write about something extremely personal, which is always risky and scary.
