I've never been much for beach vacations—what does one do on a beach anyway? (Ok, fine, you can run, read a book, surf...) But having your own private island, well, there is something tantalizing about that. But who can afford a private island? For this story for Outside Online, I wrote about a range of private islands that you can rent for the night, including super luxury, way-out-your-budget-but-at-least-you-can-dream island resorts in places like Madagascar and Fiji to more affordable island inns and homes in places like Maine, Georgia, and Belize.
