Last winter was a grand experiment: Could skiing still happen in a pandemic? The answer was yes. Ski resorts opened with limited capacity on chairlifts, face coverings required in lift lines, grab-and-go food, and outdoor dining. Festivals and events were canceled but après ski still happened on tailgates in the parking lot instead. On the hill, though, the sensation of soaring down a snow-covered mountain felt mostly unchanged. Skiers and riders could still woop it up through fresh snow with friends. This year, a few COVID-19 policies remain in effect, like buying tickets online in advance, wearing masks indoors, and vaccine requirements at select destinations, but many things return to — dare we say — normal.
